Our History

Explore the milestones and achievements that have shaped our journey in advocating for LGBTIQA+ inclusion in the legal profession.

Pride in Law is an association dedicated to the LGBTIQA+ legal community. After a year of planning, Pride in Law was formally created by Dean Clifford-Jones (Founding Member) in
July 2017.

The creation of Pride in Law was a historic moment. It was the first time in Australian history that an independent LGBTIQA+ Law Association was established. With thanks also to our Founding Corporate Sponsors, Pride in Law quickly grew into a National LGBTIQA+ Law Association.

Pride in Law’s Board of National Directors are governed by a Constitution and act to represent the rainbow legal community as a unified National LGBTIQA+ Law Association. Each State or Territory (Chapters – the Constituted Bodies) is governed by an enacted Rules and Regulations Document as well as several policies, which enables our State and Territory teams to advocate on behalf of their local branch members.

Since its foundations in 2017, Pride in Law has continued to seek to erase homophobia, gender inequality, and other affronts to individuals, families, and communities by educating the legal community about LGBTIQA+ issues.

Pride in Law is proud of the legacy we are building through the Committees of years past. We are not exclusive to any single area of legal discipline. Whether you’re a corporate lawyer from a top tier firm, a criminal solicitor, government legal officer, family practitioner, child protection lawyer, barrister, judicial officer, or personal injuries legal practitioner, all allies are welcome.

You can join Pride in Law through this website.
